A famous film and TV star delighted hotel guests during her recent visit to Ely.
Emma Thompson, who is currently starring in the new Apple TV series Down Cemetery Road, as well as he film Dead of Winter, stopped by Poets House in the city.
Also well known for her roles in Sense and Sensibly, Nanny McPhee, Cruella, Harry Potter and Love Actually, staff at the hotel and restaurant were thrilled to be able to take a selfie with the actor.
In a post on Instagram, the owners said: “It was a pleasure to serve her.
“There were smiles all round and great memories were made.”
Emma Thompson isn't the only celebrity to have visited Ely in recent years.

Back in 2021, English actor Dame Sheila Hancock DBE and This Morning star Gyles Brandreth (who both starred on Celebrity Gogglebox) were spotted visiting their “favourite” bookshop, Topping & Company Booksellers of Ely.
In September 2020, popstar Pixie Lott surprised the Ely Cathedral Girls’ Choir after dropping in to watch Evensong before meeting the members.
Also in that month, actress Catherine Russell – best known for playing Serena Campbell in Holby City – visited Ely as part of a UK-wide campervan tour.
In June 2019, Charles Hanson visited St Mary's Antiques in Ely to film a new episode of the BBC series Antiques Road Trip.
