Swimmers from the City of Ely Swimming Club have impressed at the East Region Open Water Championships, with one swimmer booking their place in the national competition.
Fresh off the back of the club's centenary celebrations, five Ely swimmers travelled to Whitlingham Lake, Norwich, on July 9 for the championship event against the best of the east region.

Daniel Kendall swam in the 5k event for ages 17-18 and had an "excellent" swim coming third in the region and second in the county, qualifying for the National Open Water Championships.

Competing in the 1k event for the first time were Alex Pashley, 12, and William Clarke, with Alex finishing fourth in the region and second in the county, with Will finishing ninth in the region and third in the county.
A spokesperson for the club said: "They [Alex and Will] enjoyed their event and will definitely be back next year."

Will's sister Megan, 14, came seventh in the region in her first 3k event and third in the county, whilst teammate Bella Pillow, 16, in her first 3k event, came sixth in the region and second in the county.

The spokesperson added: "A huge well done to our excellent team."

Daniel will head to Thrybergh Country Park Rotherham for the nationals on July 29.
