If you missed this unique and visually stunning film which included a snoop around the Bolshoi Theatre, backstage interviews and the stars limbering up backstage why not take the opportunity to see The Nutcracker on December 29 and you could be there courtesy of the Ely Standard.

IF, like me, you have never been to see a ballet, the optimum experience would be, no doubt, to watch the performers of the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet and Opera.

And a very close second to seeing them live on stage has to be a screening of a live performance on your doorstep in Ely.

ADeC Cinema screened a Pathe Live performance of The Sleeping Beauty, performed by the Bolshoi Ballet, on November 27 at The Maltings.

It was a truly wonderful experience and even those, like me, who are ignorant about the intricacy of ballet movements, can appreciate the splendour and the physical complexities of what is involved in a performance of this kind.

If you missed this unique and visually stunning film which included a snoop around the Bolshoi Theatre, backstage interviews and the stars limbering up backstage why not take the opportunity to see The Nutcracker on December 29 and you could be there courtesy of the Ely Standard.

Your local newspaper is giving away two pairs of tickets for the live screening of The Nutcracker at Ely Cinema. The Nutcracker ballet is based on the story The Nutcracker and the King of Mice written by ETA Hoffman. Although what is seen on the stage varies in detail from the original script, the basic plot remains the same. It is the story of a young girl called Marie who dreams of a Nutcracker prince and a fierce battle with an army of mice, lead by the fierce Mouse King, and the toys lead by The Nutcracker.

To be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets for the performance at 3pm, answer this question: What is the name of the young girl in The Nutcracker?

Answers on a postcard to: the Ely Standard, 38 Market Street, Ely, Cambs, CB7 4LS or email: debbie.davies@archant.co.uk
