Looking for something to sooth away those winter blues? Then why not try classic comedy play The Ladykillers which is based on an old Ealing film?

City of Ely Amateur Dramatic Society will bring the black comedy tale of a sweet little old lady pitted against a gang of criminal misfits who will stop at nothing, to Ely College next weekend.

The play, which is based on the 1955 British film starring Alec Guinness in which, posing as amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang rent rooms in the lopsided house of sweet but strict Mrs Wilberforce.

The villains plot to involve her unwittingly in Marcus’ brilliantly conceived heist job. The police are left stumped but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse and Marcus concludes that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet.

With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs Wilberforce is alone with five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music?

The amateur production of The Ladykillers will be performed at Ely College between Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 Feb, starting at 7.30pm each night.

Tickets; £9, are available from the box office, Burrows Bookshop: 01353 669759, or online; £9.95 (including booking fee) at elyamateurdramatics.org
