A willow weaving workshop will be running at the Welney Wildfowl and Wetland Trust, in February.

Environmental artist, Jane Frost has run workshops for the past 15 years, teacheing students to develop their skills using willow to make garden structures and sculpture.

Many of those who attend are novices when they first come, but with help from Jane they are able to make ambitious and unique structures.

Using willow and other natural fibres learn to make simple structures. Learn a variety of ‘off loom’ techniques for sculpture and hangings for interior or exterior pieces.

Workshops are suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience. Students will be able to achieve a selection of sample pieces showing a variety of techniques and some experimental pieces, combining weaving, wrapping and braiding. For larger structures there is an outdoor area to work sheltered from rain, but it can get windy, hot or cold.

Students with previous experience will be able to make larger and more complex pieces.

Workshops run 10am-4pm with a break for lunch; bring packed lunch or use the visitor centre café.

The next workshop is scheduled for Saturday, February 7. For more information, or to book a place, contact Jane via e-mail at Jane@FrostArt.co.uk or phone 01353 861944 or 07967 088 348.
