ELY Choral Society will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of working with its musical director Andrew Parnell, when he conducts the society’s performance of Haydn’s The Creation.

A large audience is expected for the concert in Ely Cathedral on Saturday March 23, when the singers will be accompanied by the Ely Festival Orchestra. This is the biggest work undertaken by the choir during its current season.

Three young soloists will perform the oratorio, soprano Ruth Jenkins, tenor Greg Tassell and Icelandic bass Andri Bjorn Robertsson.

It is 215 years since Austrian Joseph Haydn completed The Creation, and his masterpiece is still very popular. The lasting appeal of this great work results from some wonderful melodies, stirring choruses and Haydn’s masterful orchestration, leading some people to describe it as his greatest work.

Tickets cost from £25 to £8, with under 18s £5. To book, call Ely Cathedral box office, 01353 660349.
