Shakespeare’s masterpiece of forgiveness, generosity and enlightenment will be performed next week by City of Ely Amateur Dramatic Society.
The Tempest, a tale of love, revenge and loyalty, runs at Needhams Hall, Ely College, from July 23-25.
The story concerns Miranda, a lovely young maiden, and Prospero, her magician father, who dwell on an enchanted island with their servants - Ariel, an invisible spirit and Caliban, a monstrous native.
Into their idyllic but isolated lives comes a shipwrecked party that includes the enemies who usurped Prospero’s dukedom years before, and set him and his daughter adrift on the ocean.
Also among the castaways is a handsome prince, the first young man Miranda has ever seen.
Shows start at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale for £8 from Burrows Bookshop, Ely, on 01353 669759; or £8.50 online (includes booking fee) at www.elyamateurdramatics.org
