The RSPCA is inviting horse-lovers to get involved with all things rescue when a team from the charity comes to Equifest from August 17 to 21.

From meeting horses and ponies looking for homes to learning all about the rescue work of the RSPCA, the event will also see the country’s best rescue horses compete in a specialist competition.

A team from the RSPCA will offer visitors to the Peterborough Showground event an opportunity to find out about the charity’s work with horses in need: introducing people to some of the well-known ponies like gorgeous Gizmo (the colt who made a miraculous recovery after being left for dead in 2014) and brave Elsa (a filly who was found with horrific wounds to her back legs earlier this year).

The team will also bring a number of rescue horses and ponies who are currently looking for new homes.

The five-day Equifest event will see the return of the ‘display ring,’ which features demos and parades throughout the day including a special show highlighting the ‘before and after’ lives of RSPCA rescue horses and ponies.

Chief inspector Cathy Hyde, who leads the RSPCA’s specialist equine team, said: “In past years we’ve matched up lots of adopters with their perfect ponies.

“The event is a celebration of rescue horses and ponies across the country who have been through incredibly tough times but survived and flourished thanks to the brilliant work of equine charities and sanctuaries, and their new adopters.
