Celebrate poetry and the Fens at group’s anniversary event
Local poetry night, Fen Speak is celebrating its first birthday with a special anniversary edition on October 15.
This time last year, two local poets decided to launch an open mic night in Ely, with no real idea just how many people would be interested in attending events dedicated to poetry and spoken word.
Twelve months on and the Fen Speak open mic nights have grown into a great grassroots poetry community, helping writers to develop their performance skills as well as providing a night out for those seeking alternative forms of entertainment.
And, to celebrate their first anniversary, the Fen Speak team have organised a special first birthday edition of Fen Speak, complete with cake, balloons and party hats, as well as all the best poetry and storytelling from across the Fens.
The theme of this event is ‘birthdays and anniversaries’ so if you have a suitable poem that you’d like to share, the Fen Speak team would like to see you on the night.

The event takes place at the Babylon Gallery, in Waterside, Ely. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm.
There’s no charge for entry and no obligation to perform.
