Cambridge University’s Marlowe Society returns to the Cambridge Arts Theatre in January to stage a bold reinvention of Shakespeare’s classic and best-loved romantic tragedy, Romeo & Juliet.
Spain, the 1930s. It’s fiesta time. A crowd mingles in the plaza. The sounds of Flamenco echo down the streets. A knife glints in the hot sun. The worlds of Carmen and Lorca collide in this vibrant interpretation, performed by a large ensemble of actors and musicians.
Dedicated to the renowned director Peter Hall, Romeo & Juliet is directed by Tom Littler, who also directed The Marlowe Society’s Measure for Measure. Formerly director of the Peter Hall Company, Littler is now artistic director of Jermyn Street Theatre.
Performances run from January 24-27 and are at 7.45pm with matinees at 2.30pm on Thursday and Saturday.
