The Cambridge International Student Film Festival is back later this week, returning to the city from Friday (10) to Sunday (12).

Now in its eighth year, the festival will showcase 25 student films, all of which have been shortlisted from more than 350 entries spanning 43 countries.

The nominated films will now compete in the prestigious Watersprite Awards, which celebrates the next generation of international filmmaking talent.

Promising not to disappoint, the weekend is jam-packed full of exciting events, from speakers across film and television to master classes in directing, cinematography and scriptwriting.

Hilary Bevan Jones, chairman of Watersprite and former chairman of BAFTA, said: “Watersprite promotes diversity and the support of young people by assisting in navigating the mysteries surrounding entry routes into the world of film.

“One of those routes being the open dialogue and the sharing of access to those contacts they may not have yet formed in the industry.

“Watersprite’s reach continues to grow and this year we received submissions from more countries around the world than ever before.

“We are proud to support and celebrate emerging international filmmaking talent, and I am very excited to see where this year will take us.”

Nominated films will compete in 13 genre and technical categories, including the premiere festival for Film of the Year and Filmmaker of the Future, with winners announced this Saturday at the Fitzwilliam Museum, in Cambridge.
