Coronation Street star Wendi Peters stars in the revival of Joan Littlewood’s award-winning musical Oh What A Lovely War, which comes to Cambridge Arts Theatre, in March.

Following a sold-out run in 2014, this production commemorates the centenary of the First World War.

Oh What A Lovely War, a satirical musical about World War I, is a whirlwind of music and colour, deeply moving and features some of the greatest songs from the First World War including “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’, ‘Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag’, ‘Goodbye…ee’, ‘And When They Ask Us’, ‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’ and many more.

Originally premiered at Theatre Royal Stratford East in 1963, acclaimed English theatre director Joan Littlewood adapted the play from Charles Chilton’s work for radio through her company Theatre Workshop. It was an immediate hit, transferring to the West End later in 1963, opening in Broadway in 1964 and receiving four Tony Award nominations including Best Musical.

Wendi Peters is best known for her portrayal of the iconic Cilla Battersby in Coronation Street - a role to which she returned this year.

The production runs from March 2-7, with performances nightly at 7.45pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on March 7.

Tickets, priced from £15-£35, are available by calling 01223 503333 or online at www.cambridgeartstheatre.com
