Over 200 dancers from Burwell, Wicken and Downham Market joined forces to encapsulate some of theatre’s most-loved storylines using the medium of ballet in Samara Ballet School’s show.
Michelle Rasdall, who has been a ballet teacher for over 20 years, enlisted the help of hundreds of local youngsters – both boys and girls – to put on a dazzling display, which featured a thousand colourful costumes.
This year’s show, over three performances at Ely College on December 5 and 6, presented the sheer diversity of styles that Rasdall bestowed upon her dancers - from 1970s television to Abba and from Fred Astaire to Thumbelina.
The Adoption - the tale of a young girl who has a baby which she is forced to give up for adoption - was juxtaposed with the love story of Tony and Maria from West Side Story, utilising the skill and talent of the young dancers.
Fields of Gold, the Nutcracker, Puff the Magic Dragon were all masterfully recreated, receiving rave reviews from critics and parents alike.
The Samara Ballet School was set up in Tottenham, North London in 1992 before moving to bring dance to the rural communities of East Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk.
