A PAIR of young rowers from Ely played a starring role in Great Britain's record breaking victory in the European Junior Rowing Championships last week.

King's School Ely pupil Laurence Dugdale, 17, and Burwell's James Scott, 17, battled against some of the finest young rowers from across the continent to collect three gold medals and a silver at the European Junior Rowing Championships in France.

The pair, who were representing the Great Britain team at the event in Vichy, cruised to wins in the quadruple skulls and coxless fours events with an impressive performance in another coxless four event securing a silver.

The duo's efforts were a major part of the GB team's best ever performance at the event. GB won the event overall with a points total of 272 with the second placed nation, Italy, being over 100 points behind.
