Nine Witchford Village College students spent two days at Ely Sailing Club to earn their Royal Yachting Association certificate earlier this month.
The students were instructed by Mr and Mrs Christan, Mark Coupar and Simon Leeks. They learned how to rig a boat, capsize safely, sail various circuits of the lake, various knots, learn parts of the boats, how to sail in wind and without wind, how to rescue each other and how to de-rig their boats.
At the end of day two all nine students passed the RYA Stage 1 Sailing Certificate, which now means they are qualified to sail.
They are now also members of Ely Sailing Club.
Chris Duncan, additional needs co-ordinator, said: “We would very much like to say a thank you to all the students for their exceptional behaviour and to the sailing club for allowing us the opportunity to take part in the course.”
