WITCHFORD'S unstoppable rise to the top continued at the weekend as they beat Hawks to secure their third promotion in as many seasons.

The team triumphed 3-1 in extra-time of a nerve-jangling play-off final to book their place in Division One of the Cambridgeshire District Netball League, capping what has been an incredible rise since the club's foundation, just three years ago.

Witchford started the play-off match brightly, and soon found themselves 4-1 ahead after just a few minutes. Not to be outdone, the Hawks soon began to find their feet in the match and, drawing on their extensive Division One experience, finished the first quarter in the lead.

Having got their noses in front, Hawks rammed home their advantage and they extended their lead to an imposing eight goals at half time. Sensing their season slipping away Witchford rallied and came out with renewed vigour in the third quarter.

The deficit had been reduced to a more manageable four going into the last quarter and, boosted by their comeback, Witchford dug deep to pull themselves level at 29-29 with a just minute to go.

Having forced extra-time, Witchford were keen to make their momentum pay and through and some ruthless finishing saw them take a 3-1 win, and with it, promotion.
