WITCHAM 1st XI slipped to their third loss this season at the hands of a polished Cambridge NCI side.
Opting to bat first on a sun-baked track, Witcham scored consistently across their top and middle order but aside from some excellent batting from Tyler Phillips (54) and Chris Houghton (35) they failed to forge a big enough partnership to push the score towards the magic 200.
Having finished 163 all-out, there was still much to be done for Witcham to secure the victory, with early wickets a must. Disastrously for the visitors however, the opening pair made 85 between them and set Witcham firmly on the back foot.
G Griffiths (3-26) produced a brief spell of magic to give the visitors a chance at the middle order, but, despite taking six wickets, they were unable to stop NCI from scoring regularly, and the home side wrapped up the win a ball short of the 34th over.
