WITCHAM were consigned to their third consecutive defeat at the weekend as they lost out by a single run to Granta III.
Opting to bowl first, Witcham toiled exhaustively to keep Granta from reaching the key 200 mark and found some success as they dismissed the hosts for 171. N Philips' return of 3-42, proving the highlight of a workmanlike innings.
Witcham's reply with the bat was a solid one, and they looked to have manoeuvred themselves into a winning position as they reached the final over needing just eight runs to win.
Granta's paceman M Peacock had other ideas though, as he bowled estimably to ensure Witcham made only six. S Cooper (52) and Ian Housden (40*) led a spirited if unsuccessful fight back for the visitors.
