FINE bowling from Des Heginbotham and a good opening partnership from the Sawston openers proved decisive.

Little Downham batted to a respectable score of 163-8 with Jon Hunt top scoring with 52 and Nigel King contributing 23 not out. The most successful of the visitors' five bowlers was Heginbotham who took 4-53 while Aaron Pledger finished with 2-32.

Sawston's openers put on 44 for the first wicket but had no answer to a devastating five over spell from James White who took the first three wickets for 36 runs.

Chris Baker (2-56) also bowled well but Sawston held firm and Aaron Pledger hit 31 not out to see his team to 164-7.

Littleport I v Willingham I

Littleport won by 128 runs

A BRILLIANT partnership of 110 from Ashley Dougan (42) and Terry Foster (67) helped Littleport to a victory that takes them away from the relegation zone.

Foster now has a season's batting average of 59 and his innings pushed the home side to a score of 179-8.

Both Ritz Steytler and Brian Buncombe bowled 2-25 to lead the Willingham bowling attack.

The pair also proved to be the top-scorers with the bat but their knocks of 10 and 11 did little to see off excellent bowling from Chris Lupson (5-28), Patrick Frost (2-21) and Douglas Marsh (2-2).

Willingham were bowled out for just 51 with James South taking three catches.

Match abandoned

THE match was called off by Burghley Park after they were unable to field 11 players. Fordham receive 25 points.

Fordham II v Isleham

Isleham won by three runs

DAMP conditions made this match tough going for both teams but it ended with a thrilling finish.

Fordham grabbed two early wickets but Clive Dunbavin (43) batted well and support from Steve Thullier and Richard Goodjohn (24 apiece) took Isleham to 134-7.

Father and son, Barry and Ryan Houghton, took three wickets each and Clinton Cornwell was also in form with 1-6.

Isleham's Stewart Dunsmuir (2-25) and Colin Hood (2-11) limited Fordham to just 32 runs in the first half of their innings.

A crucial partnership between skipper Steve Morley (39) and Luke Arnold (14) gave Fordham renewed hope and led them to the final over with eight runs required.

But Fordham fell short finishing on 131-8.

Sutton I v Burwell III

Sutton won by 75 runs

THE Sutton innings began badly with three wickets falling for 42 runs but a partnership of 54 between Jonathan Few and Lloyd Brown put them back on track.

Few top scored with 49 and James Nuttall's quick fire 32 pushed Sutton on to a score of 178-8. Towriss was the pick of the Burwell bowlers taking 3-36 while Thomson supported with 2-40.

Burwell struggled to cope with Sutton's good, tight bowling and despite opener Pope batting to 37, the visitors slumped to 63-7.

King batted well and reached 29 not out but it was too late and Burwell were dismissed for 103.

Few finished with the best bowling figures of 3-20 followed by Northrup (2-15) and Braybrooke (2-14).

Witcham I v St Ives II

Match abandoned

THE Witcham batsmen made a fantastic start as Nigel Pate (61) and Michael Hook (75) shared an opening stand of 113.

With Lawrence (33 not out) also contributing runs, Witcham reached 213-3.

However, rain came at tea and forced the game to be abandoned.

St Ives remain second in the league, with Witcham third but with games in hand.

Little Downham II v Cambridge NCI III

NCI won by six wickets

NCI cruised to a comfortable victory thanks to a display of good team bowling.

Gavin Martin (13) was the only batsman to reach double figures as Little Downham struggled to 75 all out.

Purushottam Mishra, Chris Loveridge (3-11) and Matt Voutt took three wickets apiece.

John Baker (26) and John Platten (16) scored significantly as NCI reached 76-4 in 20 overs.

Kevin Martin (2-31) made a valiant attempt to turn the game around for Little Downham.

Burwell IV v Wimblington II

Wimblington won by seven wickets

A BATTING collapse proved costly for Burwell in their match against Wimblington.

Their first six wickets fell for just 18 runs but Burwell's total received a boost thanks to Thomas Bircham (41) and Jo Ticehurst (14).

Burwell were finally bowled out for 109 with Wimblington's Alan Burton returning 4-36 and Mick McCarthy bowling 2-7.

Wimblington lost three wickets as they reached 112-3 in 22.1 overs. Luke Du Plooy (2-23) was the pick of the Burwell bowlers.
