KERSHAW SENIOR DIVISION B

"AT LAST!" exclaimed Soham United player manager Andy Parker, as his side ended their seven-match losing streak by winning a crucial six-pointer with bottom-of-the-table JM Sports.

"If we had lost that one," added Parker, "I think we might have gone down."

They may still get relegated, and indeed their prospects of survival did not look too healthy on Saturday as they went a goal down following a

disputed corner.

Soham hit the woodwork twice as they fought to get back on level terms, but they had to wait until the second half when Ben Brown scored with a side-foot volley.

Brown then put the visitors in front with a brave header from Jim Brown's corner, and the introduction of lively substitute Jamie Day enabled Soham to maintain their attacking momentum.

Steve Dalby, who impressed alongside fellow midfielders Sean Hogg, Stuart Freeland and Jim Brown, made it 3-1 from the penalty spot, and Ben Brown completed his hat-trick when United were awarded a second spot-kick in the closing stages.

In the same section Haddenham Rovers drew 1-1 at West Row Gunners despite having Robbie Keen sent off.

Keen's dismissal made life difficult for the visitors, but Will Ludbrooke's goal earned them a share of the spoils.

PREMIER DIVISION

FORDHAM drew again as they entertained third-placed Over Sports.

"We were pleased with the result," said Fordham secretary John Pryke afterwards, "but on chances we could have won it."

The hosts trailed inside five minutes, but Daren Pryke flicked on a long clearance from goalkeeper Jimmy Watson and John Sands latched on to level the scores.

Sands put Fordham 2-1 ahead at the interval after following up Pryke's shot against the bar, but Over pressed hard for an equaliser and were rewarded 15 minutes from time.

DIVISION 1B

LITTLEPORT Town Reserves scored twice through Nigel Smith in their home clash with Huntingdon United RGE, but eventually went down by the odd goal in five.

DIVISION 2B

WITCHFORD '96 relinquished top spot to Longstanton after conceding two late goals in their match at Newmarket White Lion.

Ally McDonald and Aaron Spencer both went close during a goalless opening period, but it was Spencer who broke the ice with a rasping drive from the edge of the box.

Newmarket managed to get back on terms, but stand-in striker Robbie Scarrow scored at the second attempt to restore Witchford's lead, and he then struck again with five minutes remaining to make it 3-1.

The hosts pulled a goal back almost immediately however, and a last minute penalty levelled the scores.

Sutton United kept themselves in contention, and have now dropped the same number of points as Witchford, after winning 5-4 at Over Sports Reserves.

United led 3-0 at one stage, and were pegged back to 4-3 before goals from Colin Coulson (4) and Matthew Keys eventually saw them through.

Stretham Hotspurs lost 4-1 at Hemingfords United Reserves, and Isleham United also conceded four goals as they went down without scoring at Milton Reserves.

DIVISION 3B

SOHAM United Reserves returned to the top of the table after turning in a top class performance at home to Dullingham.

Impressive youngster Marcus Locke led the way with a hat-trick, and he was joined on the scoresheet by Aaron Lee (2) and Shane Sadler as Soham survived a late Dullingham revival to run out 6-4 winners.

There were ten goals too in the clash between Huntingdon United RGE Reserves and Pymoor FC, which ended 8-2 in favour of the visitors.

Simon Law scored four times, and other Pymoor goals came from Aaron Povey (2), Tom Higgs and Greg Saberton (allegedly).

Fordham Reserves were also involved in a high-scoring affair as they led all the way at Hemingfords United A.

Ian Butterworth included a penalty kick in his four-goal haul, and Scott Blaber also scored in a 5-3 win.

DIVISION 4B

BURWELL Swifts impressively swept aside Swavesey Institute Reserves in a predominantly one-sided affair.

Lee Hardy's opener was followed by a goal from Ollie Williams, and Hardy nodded home number three from an Alan Nash cross.

Nash made the interval score 4-0 with a brilliant far post finish, but Swifts were reduced to 10 men by virtue of a red-card just before the break.

Williams scored with a penalty and went on to complete his hat-trick, but Steve Elmore struck the post with a subsequent spot-kick as Burwell continued to dominate.

Tom Thatcher's well-taken effort made it 7-0, but by this time they had been reduced to nine men by the departure of Williams, having used all their substitutes.

Mepal Sports won 3-2 as Guy Habbin, Tim Houghton and Matt Johannsson outscored Duncan Turner's brace for Sutton United Reserves, and Ely Crusaders were also successful - 3-1 at home to Willingham Reserves.

Haddenham Rovers Reserves' meeting with West Row Gunners Reserves was abandoned at the interval due to an unfit pitch, with the visitors leading

1-0 at the time.

DIVISION 5B

WICKEN Amateurs correspondent Rory Woodroffe said that his side have "just got to learn how to defend" after the team scraped through by the odd goal in seven at Cottenham United B.

Matt Lowe's crosses were finished off by Jamie Palmer and Josh Woodroffe to establish a 2-0 lead after 28 minutes, but Cottenham scored three times in four minutes to turn the tables just before half-time.

Graham Hickmott levelled the scores again after Palmer's solo run in the 64th minute, and Palmer grabbed the winner in the closing stages after good work by Dane Turner and Neil

Masters.

Mark Higginbottom's hat-trick saw The Vine Reserves through 3-1 at home to Longstanton Reserves, but Gareth Draper achieved a four-goal tally in Little Downham Swifts Reserves' demolition of Coldham United.

Other goals went to Mark 'Dickie' Driver and Dean Martin in a 6-0 win.

Littleport Town A were also successful in this section, winning 3-2 at Isleham United Reserves thanks to goals from Mike Edwards, Jamie Doswell and Scott Dews.

SUNDAY FOOTBALL

TRIPLE-S lost 3-2 at Bar Hill in the Senior Division, and Wicken Maids Head also went down by the odd goal in Division 4A despite a consolation from Liam Eley.

Village Inn won 6-1 at struggling Brinkley Red Lion in Division 3A, and QPR beat Exning United Reserves 7-3 in 2A, while in the Third Round of the Shelford Energy Cup there was a 5-1 home victory for LTFC 1906 against Newnham Rangers.
