THE Witchford Sports Partnership has put forward an application to Norwich Union for funding to start an athletics club for young people.
Di Baker, of the Witchford Sports Partnership, said: "There is no athletics provision in East Cambs in terms of a regular club. The aim is to run 'satellite' clubs across East Cambs and Fenland but we need the funding to do it with."
The funding requires people to vote for the initiative and the amount depends on the number of votes obtained.
For every 50 people who vote, £1,000 is donated. There is a further incentive whereby, if the proposal receives the most votes in the region, £12,500 is donated.
Members of the public are asked to go online at www.joinourteam.com where they will receive full instructions and be able to vote.
Ms Baker added: "I think we already have 50 votes or are near to it, so we will get £1,000 which will let us set up a club in Witchford.
"But it would be great to be the regional winner which would enable us to set up more of these clubs".
