ELY began the new season with an away win. Crusaders dominated the early play and took the lead midway through the first quarter thanks to James Barrett's goal.

Ely paid the price for missed opportunities and sloppy defending from a corner when Ben Lymer tapped-in Callum Munden's corner.

The match-winner came in the final moments of the third quarter when James Barrett unleashed a powerful shot into the net.

Ely keeper Lewis Hook made a fine save late on and defenders Jake Butler and Edward Frodsham put in excellent displays. Midfielder Sam Felton was the man of the match.

Soham United B 4 Haddenham Rovers Colts 7

HADDENHAM Rovers Colts wiped out a two goal deficit to win their first game of the season.

Soham dominated the opening quarter and took a 2-0 lead. Rovers' keeper Will Darlington produced several fine saves.

Joshua Lowe came on for the second period and scored a quick-fire hat-trick to put Rovers 3-2 ahead.

Matthew Wright made the score 4-2 after super teamwork with Lowe and Kieran Petty.

Soham reduced the deficit but Matthew Wright's strike restored the two-goal lead before Will Darlington's brace put Rovers out of sight.

Soham netted a late consolation but Haddenham, led by captain Ricky Sawyer, held out for a well deserved 7-4 victory.

Witchford Colts A 2 Chatteris A 3

WITCHFORD battled well against Chatteris but were two goals down when Ruairidh MacDonald finished from close home to score their first league goal of the new season. MacDonald hit the target again following good work from Matthew Loades.

Despite the defeat, Witchford were pleased with their performance and look forward to more positive results as the season progresses. Witchford's Man of the Match was Daniel Chapman.

Haddenham Rovers Colts 1 Newmarket Town 2

COLTS suffered their first defeat of the season when they paid the price for a series of missed chances.

Newmarket started the brighter but the home team created the better chances in a goalless first half.

Newmarket took the lead when the Rovers defence were slow to clear but James Beary fired home an immediate equaliser with a low struck shot into the corner. Haddenham failed to convert several excellent opportunities before Newmarket grabbed the winner five minutes from time.

Isleham Boys 2 Alconbury 1

ISLEHAM man of the match Joe Stafford made four first class saves to keep the scores level during the early stages.

The home side defended well with Alistair Steward, Ryan Boston-Mile, Jonathan Wilkinson and Johnny Poole impressing.

The deadlock was broken when Isleham's Chris Martin scored just before the break.

Joseph Kimberley made the away defence work and Martin scored Isleham's second goal.

The home defence had to be at their best and Stafford continued to make fine saves. Alconbury scored a deserved goal with 10 minutes remaining.

Aaron Cawley played well despite having seven teeth out last week.

Soham Utd 14 Manea 1

SOHAM put on a dazzling display against league new boys Manea.

Callum Eley fired them ahead on 10 minutes, quickly followed by an own goal.

Olly Henderson made it three on 20 minutes before Manea pulled one back on 25 minutes.

Henderson and Murray King hit two apiece in to make it 7-1 at the break.

Soham came out even sharper in the second half, with man of the match Liam Purton, Ryan Brooks and Josh Radford defending superbly and Adam Cook and Craig Peacock making runs down either flank.

The goals flowed with King scoring five more and Cook and Gavin Dunsmore also hitting the target.

Under-15

Soham Town Colts 6 Brampton Spartans 2

SOHAM opened the scoring through Graham Carson after just 15 seconds and James Seymour played in Dan Whitwell who made it 2-0.

Brampton reduced the deficit but Simon Murfitt and a brace from Ryan Saban put Soham 5-1 up at the break.

Brampton netted a second but Soham kept their cool and James Seymour completed the scoring.

The man of the match was Dan Sadler

AN under-strength Ely side battled hard in the first half and Matt Waites' fine goal kept them in the game at 3-1 as the first half ended.

The extra men told for Swavesey in the second half. Despite the scoreline the City boys kept their heads up and battled well.

Godmanchester Rovers A 2 Ely Crusaders 1

BOTH sides struggled to get their foot on the ball during the early stages, but it was Rovers who broke the deadlock.

Callum Byrne hit the bar for Ely and Rovers broke to score a second before half time.

Ely were a better side after the break and they created numerous goal-scoring opportunities.

However, the only goal came from Ben Maynard, who converted Michael King's cross. Aaron Smith was named man of the match.

Under-17

Ellesmere Eagles 1 Soham Town Colts 4

SOHAM continued their winning start to the season with another fine victory.

Soham's Jordan Alexander opened the scoring and Gareth Suttle expertly cut in from the left to double the lead.

Michael Sellers and Suttle combined to set up Shez Stevens for the third goal and Eagles opened their account.

Stevens and Suttle then turned providers when Alexander struck the ball into the left corner to complete the scoring.

Soham man of the match was Sam Murfitt.

Under-18

Soham Town Rangers 5 Stowmarket Town 4

RANGERS progressed to the first qualifying round and a trip to Bury Town on September 24 with an exciting win.

They took an early lead when Adam Clements scored with a 20 yard drive but Stow levelled the scores five minutes later.

Goals from Aaron Carmen and Ryan Davis put Soham 3-1 up at half time.

Stowmarket set-up a tense finish with a goal on 70 minutes but Rangers' substitute Sheridan Stevens restored the two-goal advantage.

The visitors netted a third, Stevens made it 5-3 and Stow kept going to make it 5-4 with five minutes remaining but Rangers held on.
