FA VASE - FIRST ROUND

Ipswich Wanderers 4 Soham Town Rangers 0

POOR defending ensured that Soham were dumped out of the FA Vase by a classy Ipswich side on Saturday.

Rangers' boss Ian Benjamin kept faith with the same side that hammered Stanway 5-1 in the league last Saturday and welcomed Tommy Crawford back to the squad after a lengthy suspension.

But Ipswich, who destroyed Long Melford 11-0 in their previous FA Vase match, proved too strong.

Soham found themselves two-down in the first quarter of an hour and a dubious third goal in the 25th minute, that looked well off-side, compounded their misery.

Soham's front-line of Charles Libam and Andy Furnell caused the Ipswich defenders problems, but the visitors were unable to nick a goal before half-time.

Wanderers struck a fourth goal late on as Soham committed players forward in search of a dramatic come-back.

Benjamin said: "It's absolutely devastating for all involved at the club that we are out of the FA Vase and the FA Cup before Christmas and we are going to have to try and learn a very hard lesson from this.

"We've got to get back in training, work hard, and put some smiles back on the players faces."

n Soham's next match is at home against Leiston on Saturday.
