Table Tennis COUNTESS went down 7-1 at the hands of Fulbourn V, their only success coming from Steve Jugg’s victory over Simon Johnson.

Rachel Foulger took full advantage of her handicap to cause problems to all the Fulbourn players, especially Johnson who found himself two down before recovering. Robin Gammon also battled hard taking a game off both Dave Roitman and Phil Hague.

In Division 2, Impington visited promotion-chasing Haddenham II and discovered why their opponents are riding high near the top of the able. The Haddenham trio of Ed Emmerson, Ben Brown and Phil Emmerson had too much fire-power for the Imps and only Fred Laband and John Bray came away with a win, both beating Phil Emmerson. Despite losing the first leg of the doubles to four against Laband and Duncan Taylor, Ed Emmerson and Brown came back strongly to seal the overall victory at 8-2.

A prompt but unfortunate start for Fulbourn III saw them 2-1 behind at Ellesmere with Peter Xie losing to Rhys Davies and Jim Reary losing to Rob Boyce. However, Nigel Bates, with three wins, steadied the ship, backed up by two each from Xie and Reary. Xie’s five-set win over Ellesmere’s Joanne Pettitt was particularly tight. In the doubles, Xie and Bates came from 2-1 down to overcome Pettitt and Davies to complete a convincing 8-2 win for Fulbourn taking them above Ellesmere and into second place in the Division 2 table.
