ELY City remain unbeaten in the East League this season after easing past second-placed Alford 4-2 on Saturday

Ely started the game somewhat apprehensively, and conceded a goal in the opening five minutes as an Alford striker managed to get through the D unchecked and received the ball close to the posts, leaving the Ely keeper stranded.

Ely, though, gathered themselves and a ball played into the Alford area was poorly cleared from the first shot at goal allowing Kisby to fire the ball toward the far post where Stuart Clarke slotted home to restore parity.

At half-time the game looked like it could go either way, but having not dropped a point this season, Ely were in no mood to roll over. Within a few minutes of the restart skipper Chris Vincett made it 2-1 to Ely from a rasping shot from the top of the Alford area.

Ely then began to assert their authority as Grant Gilmour changed wings, a move that proved too much for the Alford defence and left Gilmour free to play down the left flank. After only a few minutes on the left, Gilmour received the ball on the top of the D and shot low, straight past the Alford keeper to make it 3-1 to Ely.

Alford came back at Ely however, and put the home defence under a great degree of pressure. Despite strong tackling from the back four Alford penetrated the area and, just as with their first goal, a striker ran through unchecked, deflecting a goal-bound pass high into the Ely net.

With the score now at 3-2, Ely sought to put the game beyond the young visitors, and confirmed these intentions by way of a Chris Vincett goal, his second of the match. Vincett's goal was the last word in the game which ended 4-2 to Ely, meaning they stay unbeaten and sit six points clear at the top of the table.
