THREE goals in a 10-minute spell mid-way through the first half helped second-bottom Diss to pull off a shock win over the league leaders.

Mildenhall's leading goalscorer Gareth Simpson had a great chance to give his team the lead in the fifth minute when, after a great first touch, following Craig Hammond's flick on, he found himself clean through but drilled his shot narrowly wide.

After some poor defending the visitors opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Mildenhall failed to clear their lines and Diss striker Mark Angel fired in a powerful left-foot drive across goalkeeper Ben Nower.

Five minutes later Diss were 2-0 up when, after a striker was allowed to run down the right wing, he fired in a superb finish from a tight angle.

Further disaster struck when Nower sliced his clearance after a back pass and Angel pounced again, taking the ball around the 'keeper before finishing off.

Hammond pulled a goal back before the break when he struck the ball under the goal keeper from a tight angle from close range, following a free-kick.

Mildenhall dominated the second half and created numerous chances, but Diss goalkeeper Lee Hillier was in sensational form.

Some desperate last-ditch defending denied Mildenhall until a Coren Hardy header in injury time got them back to within one goal. But the visitors flew into wild celebrations when the final whistle blew straight after the restart.

Mildenhall assistant manager Wayne Goddard said: "We absolutely demolished them in the second half. I can't believe we didn't win; their goalkeeper was incredible. There's no doubt that if we had nicked the first goal we would have gone on to slaughter them.

"We're not too disappointed about the result, they have signed a few top quality players recently and I think they will go on to take points off other teams."
