ELY City's run of twelve games without a loss came to an end on Saturday as they were beaten 4-0 by rivals March Town.

Ely held firm for much of the opening period as both sides probed cautiously for a way through, but a goal just after the half-hour caused the floodgates to open for the home side.

March's opener came from a short corner which was well worked to their front men who smashed home to make the score 1-0. Shortly after the restart, March broke through once more and scored a second goal, this time from open play.

Ely appeared spent from their first-half exertions and despite coming out for the second half with a more determined air, they were unable to stop March converting a second short corner early on to make the score 3-0.

The home side scored a fourth goal with about 10 minutes to go to seal the game and put paid to Ely's unbeaten run with the final score at 4-0 to March.

Ely will be looking to get back on track next weekend as they entertain bottom of the league Boston on Saturday.
