TYLER Goodjohn bounced back to overpower a tricky southpaw in Chesterfield.

The Haddenham puncher suffered a narrow defeat to another left-hander, England No 1 15-year-old Ryan Aston, in a re-match of the 2006 Golden Gloves Final last month, but in his latest open show contest Goodjohn's growing experience helped him to outclass the highly-rated C Mitchell from Nottingham's One Nation ABC, and win by a unanimous decision.

Standing at 6ft 1in, Mitchell had a clear height advantage over 5ft 9in Goodjohn and seemed happy to remain on the back foot. But Goodjohn took the fight to his opponent and his power and speed was too much to deal with.

Goodjohn attacked with relentless body shots and a quick left hook put Mitchell on the canvas for an eight count in the second round.

The referee seemed close to stopping the fight in the final round when Goodjohn fired in a stinging combination of three quick body shots with the left and a right hook, and when the final bell went there could only be one winner.

Goodjohn's coach Mick Sawyer said: "Southpaws are a breed of their own. They are so awkward to fight against and when we saw Mitchell coming out of his dressing room jabbing with his right we thought, 'here we go again.' But Tyler just went out there and overpowered him; when he fired in the combo in the third around Mitchell didn't know what day it was.
