KARL Hayler’s Tigers made light work of basement side Haverhill as they bounced back from last week’s defeat against Stowmarket.
Though the match promised to be a tough one after a tense battle between the teams in their first meeting back in October, it ultimately turned out to be relatively easy for Ely, who ran home nine tries.
Ely began the game intent on taking the game to Haverhill and the early pressure began to tell as the visitors struggled to deal with a rampant Tigers scrum and a back line.

Haverhill finally broke under the pressure as centre Sam Benzie broke through to score under the posts early on in the first half and the opener set the tone for the rest of the game as Ely ran riot.
Dan Coulson playing his first game in the centre as apposed to his usual scrum half, ran in a hat-trick of tries as did wing Joel Scott Paul, who collected his third hat-trick of the season. There were also tries for stand off Kieran Kennett and substitute centre Tom Jackson.
The game also saw a first team debut for scrum half Jack Brownlie who had an excellent first outing. Ely travel to Woodbridge next weekend in an important match that could see them gain even further ground on the top teams in the league.
The Ely Standard Man of the Match was Ricky Neale.
