ELY under 17s kick-started their season with a clean sweep of victories at a recent tournament.
The mercurial side had picked up only two wins from seven coming into the match, but a dazzling performance saw them romp to victory in all three of their matches.
The team's first encounter against Peterborough, a difficult prospect at this level, began tentatively but Ely created plenty of chances early on which eventually brought the opening goal.
In the second half Ely upped the tempo and were rewarded with two further goals to secure a comfortable 3 - 0 lead. Peterborough responded well but good defending restricted the chances and James Bayes in goal dealt with any shots that were on target.
Peterborough eventually managed to pull two goals back but despite late pressure, Ely held firm to score a rare win against lofty opposition.
In the next match against the Bury ladies Ely were rarely threatened but a well organised Bury defence meant Ely had to work hard for a 6 - 0 victory.

In the last match against Norwich, Ely passed the ball well and soon created several chances but they struggled to find the net early on. Once in their stride though, the goals started to come, with Dan Salisbury and Michael Hart both netting hat-tricks. These together with a first time goal at this level from Jake Haynes gave Ely a 7 -1 victory and the tournament win.
