Golf Head professional at Ely City Golf Club, Andrew George, has made it to final qualifying stage for the PGA European Senior Tour.

Andrew made it through to the final with victory over a talented field at Vila Sol Golf Club in Portugal at the weekend, carding rounds of 71 and 75 to finish two shots clear of American Jerry Smith.

The Ely pro, whose caddy is fellow club member Carl Beynon, will now take on 52 other qualifiers and 22 exempt players at the final stage tournament held in Portugal this week.

The winners of the event could earn their cards for the PGA European Senior Tour, where they could line up alongside the likes of former Ryder Cup players Ian Woosnam and Bernard Langer.

Ely City committee member Chris Ellis, said: “We are all rooting for him and the club is naturally very excited about the prospect of having our head professional playing on the seniors tour with some of the greats of the game.”
