Cricket King’s Ely has been awarded the Henry Grierson Trophy for promotion of cricket in East Anglia.
The Forty Club selected the school as this year’s winners of the Henry Grierson Trophy as recognition for its work in the area to promote both cricket and the spirit of cricket.
The Forty Club is one of the largest and oldest wandering cricket clubs in the world, and has worked since 1936 to promote cricket in schools.
Representatives from King’s Ely, including two members of the current first team, Jacob Maton and Edward Goff (pictured), collected the award at the Lord’s cricket ground at the annual Forty Club dinner.
Director of sport at King’s, Ben Edmondson, said: “The Forty Club fixture is a valuable part of the school’s summer term. It allows the boys to compete and learn from players who have a wealth of knowledge and demonstrate the correct manner in which the game should be played.
“We are very honoured to have won this award and the dinner was an amazing opportunity for Jacob and Edward to experience the atmosphere of the Long Room at Lord’s.”
