ELY Tigers entered the EDF Junior vase cup competition with a round two face-off against Essex side Ongar.
The Tigers were looking to keep their winning streak intact and, in the absence of Mitzman and Jackson, Tim Mills captained the side.
Tigers kicked off and chased down the ball, putting pressure on the opposition. Good rucking enabled Ely to turn the ball over and attack. The forwards showed that they were going to dominate, with good clean ball won the backs turned on the gas and Tim Mills opened the scoring and Russell added the conversion.
From the restart Ongar found their pace and stunned the Tigers by crashing through to score. The kick was missed but from that point the Tigers turned the tables and piled continuous pressure on the visitors in every aspect of the game. Try after try came from great team play, resulting in the best rugby seen at Ely for a long time.
Tries went to Jon Hunt, Mat Kelly, Sam S Hewett, two to Tim Mills, two to Lloyd Palmer, a hat trick to Rhys Hurst and Jamie Russell added 21 points with the boot.
Head coach Paul Coulson was delighted with the result and said afterwards "This was a showcase of the raw talent the side has. It just goes to show what we can achieve when we put our minds to it."
