TIGERS' second string ended a difficult week for the club by paying a fitting tribute to parting director of rugby Terry Moore.

After Ely stormed to a 28-0 half-time lead, the visitors conceded the match due to injury problems.

The Tigers tore into St Neots from the off, with Richard Nelson running at anything that resembled opposition ably supported by Chris Ball and Jules Thorne.

Mark Egerton crashed through two opponents and offloaded to Thorne to run in from 10 metres and Pete Vousden converted.

Ely's rucking game was at its very best and their second try came when Dan Gerdner set up Nelson to finish with ease and the conversion made it 14-0.

St Neots finally got their hands on the ball and the fly-half kicked long, only for full-back Vousden to go on a barnstorming 60-metre run to allow Karim Fasali to finish from close. Another successful kick made it 21-0.

Hooker Sean Humble's bulldozing run was stopped just short of the line, but blindside flanker Ian Lemmon did the rest and the conversion completed the scoring.

Captain Vic Cato said: "This has been a difficult week at the club, and all I asked of the boys was to win and win well, and that is what we did playing some of the best rugby we've played all season.

"I'd like to thank Terry Moore for all his hard work and wish him all the very best."

n Ely first team's point-less start to the season continued with a 24-3 home defeat to third-bottom Cantabrigian in the Eastern Counties Division One.
