A RAPIDLY improving Ely Tigers side notched up their second win of the season on Saturday at the expense of Norfolk-based outfit Fakenham.

Karl Hayler’s side were in a buoyant mood after their maiden victory at Holt last week and they continued in their winning vein with a crushing display against the league’s basement side, Fakenham.

Despite blustering winds threatening an unpredictable day for Ely, two tries in the opening five minutes quickly settled their nerves and put them in the ascendancy. After their initial breakthrough, Ely continued to pile the pressure on a demoralised Fakenham outfit and the score quickly moved on to 31–0 after just 16 minutes.

The Tigers didn’t have it all their own way in the first half though, and Fakenham managed to register their opening try of the match following a timely interception.

The visitors continued their fight-back in the second half but the Ely backs ultimately proved too strong and they crossed the line another three times to add lustre to what as a resounding win. The Ely Standard man of the match award went to Joel Scott-Paul, who ran over three tries in an stand-out performance.
