Lloyd Palmer’s side kept up their winning momentum with a hard-fought victory at Woodbridge.

The Tigers are building up to a promotion play off against Upper Clapton on April 25 and went into Saturday’s game in search of a win to keep confidence high.

But, with a big crowd behind them, Woodbridge started the game in determined fashion.

Ely were awarded a penalty in the twenty-two and Matt McCarthy slotted it for three points. Soon after, Woodbridge forced their way into the Tigers territory.

Ely were penalised for offside and the opposition kicked into the corner. Woodbridge forced the ball wide before Ely’s defence could set up and the winger dotted down for an unconverted try.

Shortly after, however, Woodbridge were again penalised and McCarthy kicked another three points.

The Tigers forced their way into Woodbridge’s five metre line midway through the half before the ball was shipped out to man of the match Alex Milne, who crashed over for a converted try.

Not long after, Ely were camped in the Woodbridge twenty-two, Dan Coulson switched play to the blindside and Milne scored his second. Woodbridge finished the half by kicking three points to keep themselves in contention.

A disciplined performance from Ely in the second half prevented the hosts from building any momentum, though, and the Tigers held on for victory.
