ELY Tigers made it three wins in-a-row on Saturday against league strugglers Thurston.

Despite sodden conditions forcing the referee to abandon the match shortly after the hour mark, Karl Hayler’s men had done enough to earn the win that keeps their hopes of a strong league placing alive.

The Tigers remain in sixth place in the Eastern Counties Division 1 with a clash against league leaders West Norfolk next up.

Tries on the day came from Dan Gardner and the prolific Joel Scott-Paul, who both picked up a brace while Matt Kelly also registered.

Jamie Russell collected two conversions to seal a comfortable win for Hayler’s charges.

The visit of Thurston was marked with the club’s annual ladies’ day, which featured a special dinner and presentation for the club’s female followers.

Ely Standard editor Debbie Davies was in attendance and was on hand to bestow the Ely Standard man of the match award as well as the best dressed lady.

Man of the match went to try scorer Matt Kelly while Lydia Fellows took home best dressed lady.
