LITTLE Thetford kept hot on the heels of Junior League 5A leaders Haddenham, with a surprise 50 run win over St Ives 4thXI.
Having won the toss, St Ives opted to send Thetford in to bat first, undoubtedly to make the most of an unpredictable track.
The decision proved an astute one as, aside from a decent opening knock from Mark Browne (38) and Patrick Fitzackerley (26), St Ives consistently made use of an awkward surface to skittle the home side for just 131.
With a mountain to climb to take victory, Thetford needed a mesmeric spell of bowling from their attack and, with the opening four batsmen removed for just 10 runs, that is precisely what was delivered.
Hughie Nash provided the fireworks for the home side as he collected 3-36 from his 10 over spell to get Thetford back into the match. Aided by spell of McGrath like frugality from Browne (3.2-2-6), Thetford removed the visitors for just 81 runs.
