Christmas has come early for a local rugby talent.

William Garrad, who goes to King’s Ely sixth form, has been selected for the Midlands under 18 squad.

The 17-year-old impressed coaches held earlier this month and will now go on to compete in the national squad trials next month.

Jim Thompson, head of rugby at King’s, said: “William has been in fantastic form this year and fully deserves his call-up.

“Well done to him and good luck over the coming weeks.”
