A POOL player from Sutton has ended his 15 year wait for a world title by claiming glory in the World Pool Eight-Ball Championship last week.

Phil Harrison overcame a last minute case of the 'twitches' to beat Mick Hill 11-7 and claim his first World Championship title after an engrossing final showdown.

The win has been over a decade in the making for the Sutton man and comes after years of near misses that have seen fall agonisingly short in four semi-finals and four quarter finals,

"I'm definitely pleased to have won it after so many years spent trying to get there, I did have a case of the twitches in the final and I thought I might throw it away again but I managed to hold it together.

"I think the difference this year has just been my friends coming up to watch my matches, I have had someone to talk to between matches which has allowed me to take my mind off the games and taken the pressure of as well."

Despite being crowned world champion, Harrison is ignoring the lure of the lucrative nine-ball pool world in favour of sticking with the sport he loves, "I'm definitely going to keep going with eight-ball, I love the game and ill be getting on with the tour when it starts up again in Northampton in a few weeks.
