SUNDAY FOOTBALL
DIVISION 1A
Ely Park Rangers beat second-placed Fen Ditton to emerge as genuine title-contenders in Division 1A.
Rangers fell behind early on, but man-of-the-match Liam Hart was causing havoc on the right wing and created chances a-plenty for his colleagues.
Rob Parker, Peter Munns and Gary Dewsbury were amongst the goalscorers as Rangers eventually ran out 4-2 winners.
DIVISION 2A
Ely Park Rangers Reserves must put the championship celebrations on ice after suffering a shock 5-3 defeat at Cambridge Magpies on Sunday.
Ely correspondent Dale Spring described his side's performance as "abysmal", and they had it all to do after trailing 3-0 at the break.
In the first five minutes of the second half Martin Blakeley and Steve Pollard reduced the deficit to a single goal, and Blakeley did so again after Cambridge had scored a fourth goal.
Magpies made it 5-3 soon afterwards however, and although Martin Gray missed a late penalty for Rangers it seems unlikely that they would have salvaged a point.
DIVISION 4A
West End House lost 2-0 at home to Girton Eagles Reserves, but both Wicken Maids Head and AFC Witchford were successful on home soil.
Wicken won by the odd goal in seven at home to Prince of Wales Newmarket, and Witchford had little opposition as they romped to an 11-1 victory in the home clash with Cambridge Cosmos Reserves.
Michael Ward led the way with four goals, and he was joined on the scoresheet by Matt Monteith (3), Mark Heading, Duncan Turner, Ben Barnwell and substitute James Monteith.
The victory was put in perspective by the fact that the visitors started with ten men, were subsequently reduced to nine and eventually finished a man short.
VB TROPHIES LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINAL
Triple-S bowed out of the competition after losing 4-2 against Fulbourn-based Tally Ho.
They fell behind after just two minutes, and Dan Langley missed the chance to retrieve that deficit when his effort was saved from the penalty spot.
Triple-S continued to force the pace, but missed several chances prior to the visitors scoring again.
Ben Howe reduced the arrears when his side were awarded a second penalty before half-time, but Tally Ho increased their lead again 10 minutes after the interval.
They subsequently made it 4-1 midway through the second half, and Langley's 90th minute from a corner was scant consolation for the home side.
