Students from Ely College got a taste of life as a referee after successfully completing a special Football Association course.
The students attended a Cambridgeshire FA referee course every week for almost three months, where they learned the laws of the beautiful game.
Premier League referee, Jon Moss also attended Ely College as part of Cambridgeshire FA’s annual referee event.
He talked to the students about the pressures of refereeing on the Premier League and what it takes to become a top flight referee.
The students will now be allocated games in the local community through the Cambridge and District Mini League and also the Cambridge and District Colts League.
Nicola Hull, PE teacher, said: “I am extremely pleased with attitude and determination of the students and delighted Ely College has been able to work in partnership with Cambridgeshire FA to deliver a fantastic course.”
Alan Young, referee development manager with the FA, said: “We normally find with courses delivered in schools the conversion rate from attending the course to actually refereeing in the community is quite low.
