Sports Awards - Do you know an unsung hero that deserves some recognition?

THIS week we launch another category for the Ely Standard Sport Awards 2008 and tell you how to enter or nominate someone for an award.

Star's programme Controller Mark Peters said: "In all areas of life there are always people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make things happen and get the job done and that is also true of sport. Quite often these hard-working people, who everyone depends on week-in and week-out, are taken for granted. They may be appreciated within a small circle, but they hardly every get the true or wider recognition that they deserve. The Ely Standard's Unsung Hero Award provides an opportunity for Star Radio to address that and we will take the greatest pleasure in being able to give recognition to the unsung hero who truly deserves that title. We are very excited about the awards and really looking forward to seeing all the nominations and reading all the stories about what goes on behind the scene in local sport."

Criteria

Someone who has gone that extra mile to compete in sport or enable others to compete or take part. An individual who works tirelessly behind the scenes. Encouraging and supporting others.

You will find the entry forms on our website at: www.elystandard24.co.uk and click on the section with the Ely Standard Sports Awards 2008 logo on it. If you do not have a computer, entry forms are available from our reception at 38 Market Street, Ely or telephone 01353 667831.

Categories

There are the 12 categories for the awards. In the next few weeks we will launch the nominations for each category and tell you a bit more about the individual awards themselves. Each award will have set-down criteria. The sponsors of each award will nominate someone to judge the category. When we launch the nominations we will tell you a bit more about the sponsors and why they have chosen to support our awards and that particular category. We have already sold most of the award sponsorship, but if you are interested in sponsoring one of the remaining categories, details are below.

INFO: Category sponsors will be offered a sponsorship package, which includes an invitation to the Gala Awards Presentation Evening on December 4. The company will nominate a judge who will present the award on the evening and also receive an invitation for themselves and two guests on the night.

Our sports awards present a fantastic opportunity for local companies to share and encourage the sporting endeavours and experiences of local sports people.
