Soham Town Rangers have been the comeback kings of the Bostik North this week.

Robbie Mason’s men stormed back from a goal down to beat Tilbury 2-1 at Julius Martin Lane on Saturday, before doing the same on their trip to Witham Town on Tuesday evening.

Those two victories, coupled with Soham’s win at AFC Sudbury last week, have fired the Greens into 12th in the league standings and just three points away from seventh-placed Maldon & Tiptree.

But Soham’s winning week could have been ended before it started on Saturday after a torrid first half display in their meeting with Tilbury.

Will Gardner was shown a straight red for handling a shot on the line and Tilbury took full advantage of Soham’s reduced personnel by taking the lead from the spot.

But, in heroic style, Rangers responded in the second half and levelled just four minutes after the restart through Lewis Clayton, who slammed home a Craig Gillies flick-on.

And it was Gillies who would go on to be Soham’s match-winner, netting from close range just one minute later.

The King’s Lynn Town loanee continued his excellent form on Tuesday, netting the equaliser one minute after the restart after Witham had taken the lead after 16 minutes.

But this time it was Marcus Hall’s turn to be the hero for Soham and the striker notched the winner with 18 minutes to play.

Assistant boss, Erkan Okay, said: “We started the game really well but they scored a sloppy goal against the run of play and we were poor for the rest of the half.

“We asked them to go back to playing with a good tempo and a purpose with our forward play and we scored a goal straight away which gave us the belief to go and win the game and a class finish from Hally sealed it.

“I have to say our determination and togetherness and a desire to help each other out was a big factor to us winning and as a squad everyone is playing their part. It was a fantastic result that we deserved.”

Soham – who are now on their best run of the season – will look to add a fourth straight win on their trip to Cheshunt on Saturday (3pm).

The Ambers have won just once in their last nine matches and were hammered 4-0 by Bowers & Pitsea in their last outing.
