Soham Town Rangers joint-boss Robbie Nightingale is over the moon at his club’s current form – and it is easy to see why.
The Greens have won their last four league fixtures, notching 13 goals in the process – including four-goal hauls against Heybridge Swifts last Saturday and Norwich United on Tuesday evening.
Soham’s purple patch has transformed them from a club faced with a relegation battle to one of the most feared attacking sides in the division, but Nightingale says his side’s wonderful recent form doesn’t surprise him.
“It’s been coming for a while,” he said. “There’s probably been one game – the defeat to Dereham Town – where we haven’t deserved anything.
“The group we’ve got here is young, fit and full of energy and we carry a big threat going forward. We’re over the moon with our form at the minute.”
Nightingale also admits he is pleased to see his men succeeding over the sides around them in the league.
The Greens have had a habit of saving their finest displays for teams in the top six – their recent 4-0 drubbing of Cheshunt an example – but their previous two victories have proved they can see off their mid-table rivals convincingly.
“When we came into the job we found that we were performing well against the sides in the top six but not beating the teams around us,” Nightingale said.
“So it was important to get the win over Heybridge, especially as we had nine men, and to beat Norwich.”
Nightingale was also quick to praise midfield maestro Ryan Sharman, who netted his fifth goal in four games on Tuesday evening.
He said: “Ryan is a man in form. Everything he hits is flying in.
“He’s carving out two or three chances every game and he’s taking the majority of them at the moment.
“He’s been so effective drifting in from the left. When he cuts in he has license to do anything he likes with the ball.”
Up next for Soham is a crunch FA Trophy clash with higher-level Kidsgrove Athletic.
A place in the second qualifying round and £3,000 is at stake, and Nightingale says the Greens will travel to Staffordshire full of confidence.
“We’ll take massive momentum into Saturday’s game,” he said.
“It’s a big game and the money would have a big influence for a club with a budget like ours.
“We beat Newcastle Town, who are in the same league as Kidsgrove, so it’s a game we can win.”
