Soham Town Rangers manager Steve Fallon says his side needs to improve after they suffered their fourth loss in five games.

The Greens are languishing in 20th in Ryman Division North after two more losses - 2-0 away at Phoenix Sports on Saturday and 1-0 at home to AFC Sudbury on Tuesday night. Craig Parker got the visitors’ goal on 69 minutes.

Fallon felt there were positive signs against AFC Sudbury, but more is needed if his side wants to get out of their early-season slump.

He said: “There were signs of improvement against a good side - AFC Sudbury will be up there in the league.

“The first goal is always important and it’s disappointing we couldn’t get ourselves back into the game. We’ve got to improve. Certain players have got to improve.”

Fallon says it is taking time to bed in new players, while he has not been able to field his first choice strikeforce of Ben Sawyer and Luke Stanley.

He said: “We’ve signed a lot of players and we have not quite gelled as a team yet. I think we can improve right the way through the side.

“We’ve struggled a bit up front. Ben Sawyer played 90 minutes against AFC Sudbury but he hasn’t trained and he only played 45 minutes in pre-season. It will take time for him to get back to his level. And Luke Stanley has been away. Our strikeforce not being able to play hasn’t helped.”

Soham will enjoy a break from the league on Saturday - they travel to neighbours Mildenhall Town in the FA Cup.

The Greens will be without Stanley and Alex Luque, while Wayne Goddard is doubtful, but Ryan Sharman should be back.

Fallon is under no illusions about the size of challenge which awaits his side. A win, he says, would get them right back on track.

He said: “We’ve got as difficult a tie as we could have. Mildenhall are a very good side and they’ve got home advantage. We are not underestimating how difficult a task this will be.

“But we want to turn things around, and what better way than in the FA Cup.”

On Saturday, Soham Town Reserves continued their encouraging start to the season with a 3-1 win over Milton in Kershaw Senior A.

Giovany Lopes, Kojo Ofori and Benjamin Swygart got the goals for Wayne Lockwood’s men.
