SOHAM'S grip on a promotion spot in Division 3A took a hit at the weekend after a surprise loss to Over II.

Peter Hinde's team have struggled for consistency in recent weeks after a blistering start to the season and are now looking nervously over their shoulder at Littleport II who sit less than one average point behind.

Sent in to bat first on a decent pitch, Soham began in earnest with Nick Mingay (61) and captain Hinde (22) building an assured partnership. With the dismissal of the opening pair though, Soham floundered somewhat and struggled to find partnerships of note. Soham were eventually dismissed for 169.

Requiring some 4.2 an-over to secure victory, the home side began somewhat nervously and, aside from a knock of 36 at the top of the order by A Fox, looked to be in some trouble as wickets tumbled.

The bowling of David Lunn (3-35) and Tom Clayton (2-29) kept Over on the rack as the game progressed but a whopping total of 30 extras eventually took the pressure off the home side and saw them home with a little under two overs to spare.
