ALL Comers boxing star, Alfie Smith will be aiming for glory this weekend as he prepares for the final of the Royal Navy Junior ABA Championships
Taking place at the Everton Park Sports Club in Liverpool, the finals signal the culmination of a hard fought campaign by Smith, who has impressed many along the way with some mature and competent victories.
None more so than in the quarter-finals where he out-boxed Louis Adolphe of Bideford ABC, a tricky fighter who had gotten the better of Smith at the NACYP championships earlier in the year.16 year-old Smith will be fighting against either Callum Winton or Samuel Bowen for the title in the 60kg category.
Former World Featherweight Champion Barry McGuigan, said: "The Royal Navy ABA Junior and Schoolboy Championships have spawned a whole host of great boxers over the years, and some of the talented young boys taking part in this year's competition could well be going for gold at London 2012. "It's great to see that the future of the nation's boxing talent is so strong and I wish all the boys the best of luck as they take the ring.
