A TEENAGE showjumper overcame a horrific fall to return home from the Spanish Sunshine Tour with arms full of trophies and rosettes.

Laurie Bartram, from Littleport, suffered a broken nose, two black eyes and numerous cuts and bruises when, on the third day of the five-week competition, she was trampled by one of her horses, Man About Town.

Bartram, who turned 17 during the contest, recovered to secure two Small Tour wins for Great Britain on the same horse. She was regularly placed in the top 10 on this horse and on her Dutch Warmblood, Night Mare.

Bartram managed to secure a place in the Eastern Region Showjumping League of the BSJA by earning points on Night Mare.

Laurie's mother, Yvonne Bartram, said: "Although Laurie managed to compete successfully with her injuries, she found the tour very difficult and was desperate to come home shortly before the end. She was put under a great deal of pressure in training and competition in a highly competitive, adult environment in a foreign country."

Bartram went to the tour, in Vejer de la Frontera, to promote her business Elysian Horses, a stud which is home to Temple Der Konig, a horse ridden by top British showjumper John Renwik.

Bartram, who is trained by Renwick, is now recovering at home and looking forward to competing in the Amateur Inter Nations Cup Competition at Unex Towerlands next month.
