The winners of Ely Tennis Club's first tournament of the year were Honor Porter and Geoff Powell.

Porter and Powell won 30 games out of a possible 54 to come out on top in the Chairmen's Shield Tournament.

Runners up were Jason and Vivienne Teckoe who, despite beating Porter and Powell, gained fewer games overall.

The other pairs who took part in the competition were Owen Chandler and Felicity Binns, Suzanne and Ian Lindsay and Cathy Kirby and Nathaniel Shiers.

Players interested in joining Ely Tennis Club are invited to turn up at club sessions on Tuesdays' between 7pm and 9pm and Sundays' between 10am and noon. The club plays at three all weather floodlit courts at the Ely Outdoor Sports Association next to the rugby and hockey pitches and the On Par driving range.
